Family Fun in St. George!

Mindy and her six children made the long drive from Boise to St. George to enjoy a warm and sunny, fun-filled spring vacation. Day by day more family trickled in....Grampa, husband David, then Ryan's family and Adam's family. (Michael and Jamie could not make it this year.) Every day was filled with beautiful bike rides, hikes, swimming....you name it, we did it!
We tried a new bike path through an interesting lava flow and then found our way to a park for lunch. Very fun!
We hiked on the pioneer path to the stone quarry where the early saints "mined" basalt for the foundation of the temple. Considering the equipment of the times, the task seems impossible, but they split the massive boulders, loaded them onto wagons and hauled them to the temple site. (This is Mindy's William who had just lost his front tooth...and one day later Uncle Ryan pulled out the other front tooth!)

Another day we hiked to one of our favorite places where we discovered ancient petroglyphs, and a cool, shady slot canyon.
(Ryan and little Austin in the distance which gives one perspective. It is a beautiful area!)
Well, here is Gramma with Sophie, Sadie and Lily. The hat is definitely an over 60 fashion "statement", but at 62...who cares!

Weston, and Sadie in the slot canyon (above) and had to include the picture with me and Lily since this was my birthday dinner!

Another of our favorite places is Pioneer Park above the "Dixie" sign. It, too, is a great place to explore. Today we lucked out and came upon a tortoise!
This is a traditional spot for us to take a picture. We play "I Spy" as the entire city of St. George is before us. I shared the story of our ancestor, Miles Romney, and his instrumental part in the building of the tabernacle and temple. We've always been a little proud of our connection to him. Our Miles is named after him.
It's hard to summarize a week of fun without including more of my 38 pictures, and still we would fall short of describing the fun. Swimming, movies at night in the dark on the patio, basketball...thanks to Uncle David buying us a great standard, golf for the guys, feeding the swan, playing games, cousin fun , riding the mini motorcycle, having a birthday surrounded by family, touching base with my bosom buddy, Jacque Munns, and being treated to a cleaning lady to clean up after us!
