The adult children in our family were invited to a long weekend get-a-way in St. George this October over General Conference weekend. Mindy and David and Ryan and Julie took us up on our offer and we had a super good time!
David and Mindy came a day early on Wednesday, and we didn't waste much time before heading to Perk's for a delicious Chunky Monkey ice drink......DIVINE! Makes one's mouth water at the thought of it!
That night we headed to Tuacahn to see Little Mermaid which was great and lots of fun. ( Ryan and Julie had already seen it with their children.) That theatre and its setting are truly amazing.
And always a ride in one of Bill's vintage cars. This time in his 1957 Chevrolet BelAir which we drove to the Texas Road House for dinner. A first this time was running out of gas, always interesting. Bruce Kenner rescued us with 2 gallons of gas. What are friends for?
Ryan and Julie arrived Thursday evening. So there was golf on Friday (also Thursday and Saturday) and the girls rode along in the carts with the guys. Then we drove up to Zions National Park, lunch at Oscars, and began the hike up to Angel's Landing. The young people charged on ahead, aiming for the top, while Bill and I motored along at a slower pace. Bill petered out on me...wasn't feeling too well with a bad case of hay fever and 2 Clariton pills, but I made it to my goal...2 miles up to Scout's Landing which is where the trail turns crazy ridiculous and over my head.
Here are some pictures I took along the way. Breathtaking!

There were 21 switchbacks leading to Scout's Landing and to where the trail to Angel's Landing begins. These four DID it! (Pic taken after the fact.)
On close examination you can see the rope/chain that a hikers use to make it to the top of the 1/2 mile crazy trail to Angel's Landing. Sheer 1400 foot cliffs on one side, I think 800 on the other. At times the path is only a few feet wide! Not for anyone with height issues! I made it to the base of this climb and was thoroughly satisfied. It was so beautiful.
Ryan and Julie at the top! It was really a fun day!
General Conference! This is the traditional conference watching at the Shipp's home. 4 out of 6...out for the count!
Played games every night, either out on the deck or inside. The evenings were so beautiful. By Sunday late afternoon, Mindy and David had flown home and Ryan and Julie began the drive home to Henderson. We all had a great time together and of course wished that everyone could have been with us.
Monday morning. We have moved all of the furniture out of the "Black Hole" at Deer Valley....our nightmare of nightmares investment! Most of the furnishings were moved out to Bill's hanger, but we thought we could use the hot tub in St. George. Only trouble was how to get it off of the trailer. Bill rented a forklift (though they told him it wouldn't work as the forks were shorter than half the width of the tub), and drove it across town at a walloping 15 mph! Bill rigged it up with straps secured around the tub and onto the forklift and lifted it right off. (I think he is amazing!) He hasn't quite figured how to move it to the patio...the forklift would have destroyed the grass...but Bill will address that issue on our next trip south...maybe with piano dollies.
